The Car by Gary Paulsen, Terry Anders meets up with Waylon Jackson who is 45 years old and a war veteran, close to the middle of the story. They travel a lot together to find Terry’s uncle in Portland, Oregon. When Waylon and Terry first meet, Waylon shows the good side of him to earn Terry’s respect and to let Terry give him a ride. Waylon shows that he will protect Terry when the rednecks starting to mess with him and Terry at the gas station. Terry feels that Waylon is his new best friend where he was there for him when his parents weren’t.
Terry Anders life is being described in 3rd person narrator. Terry Anders is left alone by his parents while neither one knows he is alone in Cleveland, OH. He builds “The Cat“so he can go see his uncle that he barely remembers. After Terry builds The Cat and starts on his journey he meets a man named Waylon Jackson who ends up taking him to go see his best friend named Wayne. The three end up going “Trucking“ to get Terry to learn and they go into Deadwood, SD. When they go into Deadwood Waylon tries to get money by playing cards and also looking for an old friend named Wanda that he met while stationed there. After getting chased by ruthless cowboys Terry was forced to leave by Waylon and Wayne before things got worse, but Terry decides to go back to save his new friends in Wyoming.
I would recommend this book to people because it shows how a young boy survived without any parents and little money. If you are looking for something scary then this is not the book for you, but if you’re an adventure and action type then read this book. It shows how a young boy named Terry travels the country to find his uncle that he barely remembers. There is a lot of action that is involved in this novel by fighting to death to even chases. If you see The Car by Gary Paulsen then make sure to read it!

Terry is a young man going on a journey to find out who he is. He is a very smart and mechanically inclined boy lacking manners. Waylon is the peaceful one that is not about war. Also he does not really care for money like other people d. Waylon also is a cook and veteran, and he is gay. Terry Anders story is told by a 3rd person narrator.
This story that has been read takes place in Cleveland, Ohio. Even though Gary Paulsen does not give the exact date of when this happen he gave a hint which is 1993. They also end up at the end of the story where the excitement start is South Dakota. He also met some people on the trip and they got together well.
Basically is story is about Terry and how his parents are never there for him. So when they disappear terry has time for himself and when he builds his car up the boy goes on adventure of a lifetime. When he is on his way to go to South Dakota he picks up Waylon and he pays for his transportation. After all of his encounters I think he is happy where he is.
I certainly recommended this novel because this is an adventurous book. My goal is to get people to read this book because if you feel alone get some friends.

The Car
                      By: Gary Paulson

I recommend this book “The Car” by Gary Paulson. It was a very funny book. If you love adventure books that are funny than this is the book you would want to read. The characters Terry, Waylon and Wayne make up a little adventure family and they go trucking to see the world and so that Terry can learn some history about America. But if you’re a person who values family than this could be a book you might consider reading. My opinion of he book is that this is a really good book and it’s something I would consider reading again.
Terry first met Waylon when he was going west to find his uncle because his parents left him. He met him on the side of the road when it started to rain. The plot of the story would be that Terry is heading west to find his uncle but then he meets Waylon and Wayne and they talk him into going trucking with them to explore America and find some stuff out about the world and learn some history.
Terry Anders story is told in 3rd person so it’s being told by the narrator. The setting of the story would be that he’s starting out in Cleveland, Ohio And when he meets Waylon and then he goes to south Dakota but first they went to Nebraska to get Wayne but after that they went to Deadwood south Dakota. After they saw Deadwood they ended up in Wyomming.

A blog about the novel “The Car” written by Gary Paulsen, a third person point of view book that I would highly recommend. I would recommend it because of Waylon because he’s a man who reminds me of my grandfather, A war veteran that is extremely smart. The book has funny parts and has a couple of action scenes and I enjoyed it a lot.
The novels main characters are Terry, and Waylon. Terry is a 14 year old kid with a messed up life. He’s a little childish but despite driving without parents he’s doing fine. The second character is Waylon, an old but extremely intelligent Vietnam veteran. Waylon is a hippie homeless traveler. He seems peaceful for most of the story but his mood changes when he beats up a group of rednecks. Waylon is important to the story because he has important information for terry.
The setting of this story was Cleveland, Ohio 1993, where terry lives. Another place was Deadwood, South Dakota and, Nebraska, where they picked up Waylon’s friend Wayne. These are some of the road stops but they spend most time on road.
The book is about a boy who has a pretty bad life with his parents, non-stop fighting and completely ignoring him. His life is even worse when his parents leave him. This causes a lot of changes to happen. The best point of the book is about halfway into it. Terry and his friend are driving west but a group of drunken rednecks drive by them. They try to spit on them but miss so they decide to throw a bottle at them causing terry to fall into a ditch. Waylon tracks them down and beats them up in a gas station.
The ending of the story was probably the worst part of the story. The story is a cliffhanger, a problem this author has with all of his books, and he leaves you hanging. The end they are in a call driving and it just ends.

The Car is a book written in third person by Gary Paulsen. There are two very important characters in this book. The main characters name is Terry Anders. He is fourteen years old, and his parents leave him all alone. Terry remembers that there is a kit car in the garage, so he decides to build it and take a trip. The other very important character in this book is Waylon Jackson. He is forty five year old war veteran, who is a great fighter. While taking the trip, Waylon is teaching Terry about America, and helping to pay along the way
The story takes place in the year 1993. They travel to many places in this book including South Dakota, Ohio, and Wyoming. The book starts with Terry’s parents leaving him all alone, with nothing at all. The climax in this book is when the red necks throws the bottle at the Cat and almost hits Terry. When Waylon gives them the choice to apologize, they turn the offer down. So they have to face the consequences. The book ends with Terry choosing Waylon and Wayne over his family.
I would recommend the novel The Car because I like how Terry values his friendship with Wayne and Waylon. I also value Terry’s determination from when he built the car. One other reason that I liked this book is because I have I similar goal as Terry does. I would like to build my own car, and then take a trip across the country.

Dear S.L.S,
I like your review because it is straight and to the point. you still gave enough detail to make a person understand, but you did not give too much information. you gave just enough information to make a person want to read it. nice job.
